Well, I am going to speak here today, in this ‘Alameda Park’ of Mexico City, about something very important; I want to refer, emphatically, to the matter of dreams.
The hour has arrived to go to the depths of this issue, and I consider that the most important thing is to stop dreaming. Dreams, in reality, are nothing more than mere projections of the mind and, therefore, they are illusory; they are useless. It is precisely the Ego who projects dreams and, obviously, those dreams turn out to be futile… We need to transform the subconscious into conscious; we need to radically eliminate not only dreams, but the very possibility of dreaming. It is unquestionable that such a possibility exists as long as ‘subjective elements’ exist within our psyche.
We need a mind that does not project; we need to exhaust the process of thinking. The ‘projecting mind’ projects dreams, and these are vain and illusory.
When I say “projecting mind,” I’m not referring to mere projects like those an engineer makes, drawing up plans for a building, a large bridge, or a highway; no, when I speak of a “projecting or projective mind,” I mean every “intellectual being.” It’s clear that the subconscious is always projecting, not only houses, buildings, or things like that; no, let me clarify: it also projects its own desires, its own memories, its own emotions, passions, ideas, experiences, and so on. The “projective mind,” I repeat, projects dreams, and it’s clear that as long as the subconscious exists, projections will exist; when the subconscious has become conscious, the projections end, they can no longer exist, they disappear…
True and Authentic Enlightenment
If we want to reach authentic Enlightenment, it is necessary and urgent, we could say, to transform the Subconscious into conscious. Undubitably, such a transformation is only possible by annihilating the Subconscious. But the Subconscious is the Ego; therefore, it is necessary to annihilate the Ego, the ‘I’, the ‘me-myself’, the ‘self’. This is how the Subconscious is transformed into conscious, so that in its place remains the Objective, real, and true Consciousness… In other words, I mean that as long as any ‘subjective element’ exists within ourselves, no matter how insignificant it may be, the possibility of dreaming continues. But when every ‘subjective element’ or Subconscious ends; when there is no longer any ‘aggregate’ or ‘subconscious element’ left in our psyche, the result is Objective Consciousness: authentic, true Enlightenment.
It is one thing to wander through the hypersensitive worlds with Objective Consciousness—that is, fully awake—and quite another to move through those regions in a subjective, subconscious state, merely projecting dreams. Consider the vast difference between one who wanders through those regions projecting dreams and one who lives there without projections, with fully awake, enlightened Consciousness, in a state of heightened awareness. Obviously, the latter is truly enlightened and can, if they so choose, investigate the Mysteries of Life and Death, and know all the enigmas of the Universe…
A certain author says that “dreams are ideas in disguise,” and if that is so, we can clarify the matter a little more by saying that they are projections of the mind, because these “ideas in disguise” are projected mentally, and that is why dreams, therefore, are false and vain.
But those who live awake no longer dream. No one could live awake without having died to themselves, without having annihilated the Ego, the Self, the Me. That is why I want all brothers to be concerned with the disintegration of the Ego, because only in this way, by disintegrating that terrible Legion, can they become radically awake.
Undoubtedly, it is not so easy to eliminate “subjective elements” (of which there are many varieties).
This elimination is processed didactically, little by little, and as one eliminates such “elements,” Consciousness becomes objectified, and when the elimination is absolute, Consciousness has become totally objectified, awake; then the possibility of dreaming has ended, has concluded…
The great Adepts of the Universal White Brotherhood do not dream, they possess Objective Consciousness; the possibility of dreaming for them has disappeared and one finds them, in the higher worlds, in a state of intensified wakefulness, directing the current of the countless centuries, governing the laws of Nature, transformed into Gods who are beyond good and evil.
It is therefore essential to understand this thoroughly, and so that everyone can draw an accurate summary, I want to say the following:
- 1- The Subconscious is the same as the Ego; by annihilating the Ego, Consciousness awakens.
- 2- The “subconscious elements” are subhuman and everyone carries them within. Destroy them and all possibility of dreaming will end.
- 3- Dreams are projections of the Ego and, therefore, are useless.
- 4- The Ego is mind.
- 5- Dreams, therefore, are projections of the mind.
- 6- You must write this down very carefully: it is essential NOT TO PROJECT.
- 7- We not only project things for the future, we constantly live projecting things from yesterday.
- 8- All kinds of emotions are also projected into the present: morbidities, passions, etc. The projections of the mind are therefore infinite, and consequently, the possibilities of dreaming are also infinite…
How could a dreamer be considered enlightened? Obviously, the dreamer is nothing more than a dreamer; he knows nothing about the reality of things, about that which lies beyond the world of dreams.
It is therefore essential that our Gnostic brothers and sisters strive to awaken; they must truly dedicate themselves to the dissolution of the Ego, the Self, the Me; this must be their primary concern. As they die to themselves, Consciousness will become increasingly objective, and the possibilities of dreaming will gradually diminish.
Meditation is Essential
Meditation is indispensable to comprehend our psychological errors. When one understands that they have this or that error or defect, they can afford the luxury of eliminating it, just as I taught in my work titled ‘The Mystery of the Golden Blossoming.’
To eliminate this or that error, this or that psychological defect, is equivalent to eliminating this or that psychic aggregate, this or that ‘subjective element’ within which the possibilities of dreaming or projecting dreams exist.
When one wants to eliminate a defect, an error, a psychic aggregate, one must first comprehend it, but comprehending alone is not enough; one must go deeper, to the very core: it is necessary to grasp the profound meaning of what one has comprehended. This grasp can only be achieved through deep, profound, and very intimate meditation… One who has grasped the profound meaning of what one has comprehended is able to eliminate…
Eliminating psychic aggregates is urgent, psychic aggregates and psychological defects are, in essence, the same thing; any psychological defect is nothing more than the expression of a psychic aggregate.
Must we eliminate them? That’s clear, but first we must comprehend them and grasp their profound significance. This is how we die moment by moment; only through death does the new come about…
You want to be awake in the Astral Plane, the Mental Plane, etc., but you don’t worry about psychollogicaly dying, and the most serious thing is that you confuse dreams with true mystical experiences.
- Dreams are one thing; they are nothing more than simple projections of the subconscious.
- Mystical, real experiences are another. Any authentic mystical experience requires a state of alertness and awakened consciousness; I could not conceive of a mystical experience with a sleeping consciousness.
Thus, the mystical experience—real, true, authentic—only comes about when we objectify Consciousness, when we are awake… Let the Gnostic brothers reflect deeply on all this; study our work “The Mystery of the Golden Blossom” strive to die moment by moment; only in this way will you truly achieve the objectification of Consciousness. That is all!
Q & A
QUESTION. Venerable Master: You emphasize not only understanding, but also discovering the profound meaning of our psychological defects. I understand that comprehending aims to identify these defects and that the profound meaning aims to discover the harm that the defect can cause us, as an obstacle to Self-Realization. Am I correct?
ANSWER. The question that has arisen from the audience is worth answering… Comprehension is not identification; someone could identify a psychological defect without having Comprehended it.
Let us distinguish, then, between Comprehension and Identification.
This thing called comprehension is very elastic; the degrees of comprehension vary. We may comprehend something in a certain way today, in a relative and circumstantial manner, and tomorrow we may comprehend it better.
The apprehension of the profound meaning of a particular defect is only possible through all parts of our whole being. If some parts of our being have grasped the profound meaning, but other parts of our same being have not, then the complete and profound meaning has not been apprehended either.
Regarding what constitutes the “profound meaning,” and its specific flavor, we should not form preconceived notions. The profound meaning of a particular defect can only be experienced at the precise moment, in the right instant; that’s why we can’t possibly form preconceived ideas about the true meaning of our defects…
– Student. Thank you, Master, for this explanation which reveals that comprehension is truly a function of the mind and that profound meaning is a function of Consciousness. Is this correct?
– Master. Friends: the mind, with all its functions, is feminine, receptive; it would be absurd to make it positive, foolish to elaborate ideas, preconceptions, theories…
Since the mind is merely a passive instrument, it cannot, by itself, take the place of comprehension. Distinguish between comprehension and the instrument we use to manifest ourselves in the world. Obviously, comprehension belongs more to the Essence, to the innermost workings of Consciousness, and that is all.
The profound meaning of this or that psychological error differs from the understanding by the very fact of belonging to the various perceptions or direct experiences, lived by the various parts of the Unitotal Being.
– Student. Master: Is every dream an out-of-body experience, an “astral projection,” or is it sometimes a mental projection?
– Master. Well, during sleep, the Ego cannot be present in the body, because if the Ego remained within the physical body during sleep, then the Vital Body, or “Lingam Sarira,” would not be able to repair it. Normally, the “Lingam Sarira,” the Vital Body, during the hours when the Ego is absent, repairs the “BODY ITSELF.” During these hours, the thyroid gland secretes a great deal of biological iodine, which disinfects the organism. The solar plexus also works intensively, and the hepatic plexus (wonderfully) captures solar energy during these moments of sleep and distributes it throughout the channels of the sympathetic nervous system, resulting in the repair of the physical body. In other words, when the Ego returns to the body, it is already completely repaired and ready for the day’s activities. Therefore, what is experienced in dreams happens outside the physical body.
The ego’s exploration of the inner worlds, the suprasensible regions of nature and the cosmos, and the dreams it has outside the physical body are simply projections of the mind, because ultimately, the ego is mind. It takes everything and projects its dreams, living in dreams; however, there are things that are not dreams. It can perceive, for example, revelations from great Masters or receive some special illumination, but only on rare occasions.
People usually live in a world of dreams, projecting their dreams and dreaming, unfortunately…
If we want the awakening of Consciousness, we must awaken here and now; whoever awakens here and now, awakens in every corner of the Universe. This is where we need to awaken. Understood?
